Head Start of Northern Fairfield County
--School Readiness program
Head Start of Northern Fairfield County sponsors three, full-day, year round School Readiness classrooms, which are located at St. Peters School on Main Street in Danbury. The School Readiness program is part of the State of Connecticut’s effort to ensure that all children arrive for Kindergarten ready for formal schooling.Eligibility
Our School Readiness Program enrolls children ages three and four, with a particular emphasis on the child care needs of low and middle-income families who are Danbury residents. If a child reaches three on or before January 1st, the State of Connecticut established kindergarten cutoff date, that child can be enrolled any time after the start of the public school year in September.
All children enrolled in the program must have a physical exam and immunization form signed by a physician, physician assistant or advanced practiced registered nurse, documenting an examination completed within one (1) year prior to enrollment, and yearly from the date of the initial physical exam thereafter.
Fees are determined using the current Department of Social Services standard fee schedule, which is based on gross income and family size. To determine a child’s fee, families must provide verification of their income. This can include four weeks of current wage statements, a letter from their employer, or their most recent income tax return. Tuition fees are determined at the time of enrollment and again in January and June of each year thereafter.
School Readiness also requires that all parents fill out a State of Connecticut Care 4 Kids application, which is available at the Head Start office.
