Head Start of Northern Fairfield County

--Fatherhood Initiative

The relationships children have with their parents, both mother and father, particularly in the early years, is by far the most important and will have the greatest influence on their social, emotional and educational development. Sadly, many children do not have access to their fathers, for a wide variety of reasons.

The Head Start of Northern Fairfield County’s Fatherhood Initiative is an effort to encourage and engage fathers, regardless of their circumstances, to become a more involved parent in raising their children.

We hold monthly meetings so that Dads and their children can share a meal and participate in fun activities. The Instructor provides guest speakers who present useful information that will enable fathers to better understand and support their children’s development and to strengthen their own role as parents.

Our Head Start program promotes positive parent-child interactions by working with both Moms and Dads to become more knowledgeable and effective in meeting the developmental needs of their children within healthy, safe environments through home visits, participation in the classroom and curriculum planning, teacher modeling, monthly parent meetings, and several social activities throughout the year.
