AARP Foundation Money Management Program

Connecticut Institute For Communities, Inc. (CIFC) is the State wide coordinating agency for the AARP Money Management Program. The AARP Foundation launched the Money Management Program nationally in 1981 to support independent living for individuals who are at risk of losing their independence due to an inability to fully manage their financial affairs or to protect these individuals from exploitation. MMP uses trained volunteers to help low-income elders and persons with disabilities to organize and keep track of financial papers, establish budgets, write checks and balance their checkbooks. This enables individuals to live independently and be financially stable.

This is an especially important and essential service, as Connecticut has the 8th oldest population of all states.[1] It is estimated that almost 30,000 or 7% of Connecticut’s elderly residents live in poverty.[2]

Currently, CIFC partners with New Opportunities Inc. in Waterbury and the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut in New Haven to provide MMP program services.
